NATIONAL FLOWER SHOW INAUGURATED
BANGALORE: A dazzling display of over 300 varieties of flowers, 400 varieties of cacti, along with a replica of the Hampi chariot made of roses. The much-awaited 4th National Flower Show was inaugurated at Lalbagh on Saturday by horticulture minister S K Bellubbi, kicking off a nine-day floral extravaganza . Transport minister Ashok, who opened an exhibition on organic farming, said the display of flowers this year is very creative and visitors can expect a refreshing effect as soon as they enter.
People were seen thronging the Glass House where different varieties of flowers, including competition-winning breeds, are arranged in various formations. Zinnia, nastardium , dahlia-cactii , fuchsia, geranium single and rare varieties of marigold, jasmine and roses are on display. Like every year, women formed a majority of the visitors. Savitha, a homemaker from Vijayanagar, said this was the first time she visited the show although she had heard of it before. She found it enchanting to see flowers of so many varieties displayed so creatively . Several medicinal plants like asparagus , thyme, paedaria, camphor basil, spreading hog weed are also on display.
The crowd-puller is a section depicting the glory of the Vijayanagar empire, complete with a floral chariot, stone mantapa and an Ugra Narasimha statue. The cactus house displays over 400 varieties of cacti.
Several amateur as well as professional photographers were seen clicking away at the rare opportunity the flowers presented. Many were seen capturing the displays from every possible angle. A photographer said the show gives him a wonderful opportunity to test his skills.
Several stalls are set up at the show, selling horticultural and other items. The show closes on August 17 and is open to public from 9 am to 7 pm.
